Last Saturday night, while working at Blockbuster as the manager on duty, I had a very stressful, yet funny experience. Saturdays, as you can probably guess, are very busy especially when the other two employees I was working with were hired at about the same time I was. When I got to work around 5:30 I could see that both tills were already low on $1's and $5's, so I needed to get change from the safe. Our safe has a time lock, so it requires waiting a certain amount of time to open it once the combo is entered. When it is ready it beeps for about a minute then stops and you have to start all over again. I started the safe 3 times but kept
forgetting to open the safe because I was busy with customers or helping one of the other employees. I tried starting it a few more times and paid close attention so I wouldn't miss it again, but the safe wouldn't beep. I was getting super frustrated because both tills were pretty much out of $1's and $5's and we had to try and get customers to pay with either small bills or cards. I feared that I might have locked up the safe and that it would never open because of so many failed attempts. After about 4 hours of this, I finally
texted the store manager to see if she knew how to get the safe to open. She responded by telling me she forgot to tell me the new combination for the safe. I was so tired and relieved that I just laughed
hysterically and told the manager that she owed me big time for
putting me through all this craziness.
