Lunch break!

I'm blogging on my lunch break at work. Of course I'm still the loser sitting at my desk at lunch time BUT I actually sat in the lunch room to eat for a few minutes! I'm surviving even though I'm totally not used to getting up early anymore (some would argue I was never very good at it). Last night I fell asleep on the couch at 7pm because I was so tired and Carter even fell asleep in his bouncer watching his They Might Be Giants movie which I don't think he's ever done before. He's been a trouper with the big changes we are forcing on him though. It was fun coming home and having him be happy to see me.
OH! I also get to listen to my favorite radio station on my computer at work!!! Hooray for Froggy! I've missed that morning show since we've moved.
So all in all we are surviving and doing well. I think Dave is enjoying Daddy daycare and being mostly done with school. He's mentioned that he might blog sometime soon so look forward to that.

I can't believe I forgot to make this!

It hasn't been that long, but I should've made it right away!

I survived my first day. Barely.

Can I just say I NEVER thought I would be 15 minutes late on my first day of work!!! I left a half hour early and was still late. The snow was awful and of course this was my first time driving in it. I knew I would have a problem when I had trouble backing out. I did WAY better than I thought I would and just took it slow. I figured it would be better to arrive late than not at all and I was right. They were totally nice about it. It went well but I felt like the loser new kid sitting all by myself at lunch and I didn't really get to know anyone. I'm sure people will be nicer as time goes on. It was the longest I've ever been away from Carter but it was ok because I kept busy. It seems like Dave had a good day with the kids but I think he realizes why I'm always so tired. As I write this Carter is playing on the floor by me and Dave is snoring in our bed. So, we all survived and we'll do it all again tomorrow, except the being late part because I'm going to leave an hour before I need to be there.
In other news, I sent Carter's Santa picture to The Ellen show so we'll see if he gets his 15 minutes of fame.

Changing Carter's schedule

We've decided to push Carter's bed time back by a couple of hours which is proving to be much more difficult than we thought. We aren't just doing this to torture him, as of now he goes to bed between 6:00pm and 8:00pm but it's been getting closer to 6 everyday. Well, if I get home at 5:00pm or 5:30pm I would only have a half hour with my little guy and that's just not enough. So we've been gradually trying to push bedtime back. Well, last night proved that it's not easy. He slept a little in church but when we got home, rather than napping, he just played in his crib for a few hours and then it got too late for a nap so we kept him up.... or tried to at least. He ended up falling asleep in Dave's lap. So we decided to put him to bed but he woke up at 10:00pm and just SCREAMED!!!!! We sang to him, rocked him, turned on his nightlight and basically tried everything that usually works but nothing did so we decided to let him play with one of his favorite toys, Larry, and he ended up falling asleep with him. Now it's nap time and he is doing the same screaming thing. He rarely does this so I figure it is because we are messing with his sleep. Wish us luck on changing his schedule because I think we are going to need it!

UPDATE: I took him out and gave him a little bit of rice cereal (he wasn't really hungry but I think it settles his tummy) and then put him back in his crib and got through 2 verses of Silent Night before his eyes were closed. Scarlett got here 5 minutes later and made it through all 3 verses of Silent Night and 1 verse of I am a Child of God before falling asleep. Ahhh, 2 sleeping babies.

Good tidings and good news

Santa came!!! Carter was not happy.

The Polaroid was the only one he wasn't freaking out for (Thanks to Stacey for scanning it)

He did however like Mrs. Claus.

Since we were all going we met up with some friends.

Me with Santa (Some years ago.)

In front of our tree

I also got 2 job offers today. I had pretty much made up my mind about which one I would take, unfortunately the job I really didn't want offered $4500 more a year. It was a tough decision, but after talking it over with Dave I chose the lower paying job (I'm still going to make more than I did in SR) because I didn't want to take a job I wouldn't be happy with. Taking the other job would have been a step back for me and I would've been very bored. The job I chose starts this Tuesday, has great benefits, every other Friday off, has more responsibility and will help me to get licensed which will make me more marketable in the future. Like I said, it was a very hard decision, but it was the right decision. So, I am now officially and account manager at MGIS! I am very sad not to be home with Carter, but I know he is in capable hands. I am passing the torch to Dave who will now be Carter's stay-at-home Dad and Scarlett's "manny" (Man nanny) whenever Tyson is out of town. Things will be very different around here, but hopefully this will help us in the long run.

Confession Time

Hey Mom. Brook and I are holding one of your christmas video tapes hostage, featuring the muppet classic "The Christmas Toy". We will gladly return it if you meet our demands! Since we know you haven't bought Carter's christmas present yet, the newly released dvd version found on Amazon.com would be perfect. Just a suggestion. Have fun shopping!

P.S. If you click on "The Christmas Toy" above, you will be directed right to the website.

Guess who's coming to town!

Santa is coming to our apartment complex on Friday to take pictures with all the kids! We are so excited that we won't have to wait in line at the mall or pay lots of money to get cute pictures of Carter with his homeboy Mr. Claus.

On my Christmas list

Retraction

So in talking to my preschool BF (Yes, I do still occasionally talk to her) I found out that she is NOT Jewish. Hmmm, all those years, Mom, I guess you were wrong. I know how you love to be wrong.

Brook vs. the twice baked potatoes

The twice baked potatoes won thus ending my career as a hand model. Don't worry, we got our revenge and it tasted sweet.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

We are so excited that we were able to borrow a Christmas tree from Becky "Freebairn"! Thank you so much! Now it feels like Christmas. We had to take down our Thanksgiving turkey, but we took pictures so people could see what we were thankful for this year. Here is "the changing of the guard":
Dave "assembling" our tree
Me trying to do the lights all by myself because Dave was putting on Christmas music.
Me putting up the traditional first ornament (more on that later)
Dave and his first (It reads "The first of many 2005")
Bottom
Top
Dave's, mine and Carter's. In that order.
We have so many ornaments and a lot of them are very sentimental. I wouldn't be able to mention ALL of them in this post so I'll just do this years picks.
This is my favorite ornament and is ALWAYS the first one I put on the tree. My mom got this ornament in 1979 and even though it was not a significant year for me I fell in love with it when I was little and always picked it as my first ornament. When I moved out and got married I begged my mom to give it to me. She said no (I think because it was my favorite thus creating good memories) so I found one on Ebay and she got it for me for Christmas. Confession time: Mom, I swapped the 2 when you weren't looking.
Dave gets me a new angel ornament every year and when I was pregnant last year he got me this one. It's a mom and a little boy.
This is one Dave insists on putting up every year. My sister got this blown glass ornament for him before we were married and it seriously, no joke, weighs 5 lbs. It is always on a bottom branch.
An oldie but a goodie. Made in 1988 (I was 4) by my preschool best friend Rachel. She happens to be Jewish which makes the gesture of a Christmas ornament even sweeter.

Job update: I had an interview that went really well today with another insurance company. I have a second interview for the first company tomorrow and then a second for the place I interviewed today on Wednesday. Things are working out.

Almost...

Carter turns 8 months old today and he is trying so hard to crawl!

Christmas spirit is hard to come by.

Being so far from home has been hard on us, but it's even harder during the holidays. We've been so bummed out since we decided we weren't going home after Christmas and now, since we don't have jobs yet, we can't even afford a Christmas tree. I did my Christmas shopping early this year so we have presents for most of our loved ones and Carter and Dave are covered, but I won't be getting anything this year. It's fine, I'm actually more a fan of the giving, but I just wish we could afford even a small fake tree for Carter's first Christmas. It just feels like any other time of year to me. It's funny, in past years I haven't even wanted a tree and now that's all I think about. We've decided that we are nothing if not creative people and we are going to make a tree by stringing our Christmas lights on the wall in the shape of a Christmas tree and hanging our ornaments off of them. It will just have to do this year. We decided to try and bring the Christmas spirit in our home so I put out my Nativity and tonight after Carter went to bed we made hot chocolate and watched Home Alone. It was nice, but it still doesn't feel like Christmas is right around the bend.

PS Just to clarify this is not a post to make people feel sorry for us. Just me venting. We are very grateful for what we do have and will make this a good first Christmas for Carter.

Penguin Bowling

Do you ever find something in the closet that you were totally psyched to get but forgot you had? Penguin bowling everyone! This is how we spent our evening:

Penguin #6 has a mirror on it.

Another great hand-me-down!

When my friend Kaisa was having a baby boy I got him some A's gear. Well, when I was having a boy she handed it down. It finally fits and looks great. Thanks Kaisa and Eman!
