Look what I can do!

Carter's favorite thing is to play with our blinds (don't worry we supervise and they are safe.) I was taking a video of him doing this with my phone and he decided to pull himself up all by himself! Enjoy!

Time for a change?

Everyone knows that I think my husband is the cutest thing ever, but lately I've been wondering if it is time for him to do a little style change. We'd been looking for the perfect style of glasses since he desperately needs new ones and my insurance kicks in the middle of March but I really like the ones he has and there aren't many styles for guys. Last night I was at Jeff and Rachelle's and Dave was off playing basketball when Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the Office) came on the screen as himself (not Dwight.) Either Jeff or Rachelle said "Dave's hair would look really good like that." So I started thinking... I think it would and in googling pictures of him for his hair I realized I also really liked the shape of his glasses. They are bigger than Dave's but the same basic style. So please see below and let me know what you think. Dave is considering the "style update" but wants some feedback from people other than me! Hair and/or glasses? You decide!

For worried Grandmas!

Don't worry eveyone the crib mattress has been lowered and will be lowered more.

It is finished

My quest has finally come to an end. 1,463 pages later, I can now say that I have read "Les Miserables". For those who enjoy the musical (such as I), this is a must read. The depth and detail in this novel is amazing. While there are some dry spots (ie. learning about the development of argot, a type of french slang, or the current events of 1830's France), the story and characters and how they intertwine is wonderful. If you have the courage, I would definitely recommend this novel.

What did you expect?

Train show, toys, wrestling and pimp pajamas!

Train show:

This is Hogwarts and the Hogwarts Express:

Trains made entirely out of Legos:

Most of the pictures are of the back of his head because we couldn't get him to look away long enough to get a decent picture! Needless to say he liked it.

Hogwarts again and the Whomping Willow:

Mesmerized! Carter definitely likes trains! It made the trip worth it because both Dave and I weren't as pleased as we thought we would be.

Toys:

We've been playing a lot lately and we tried out a toy from Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Anderson.

He loved it once I stopped showing him what the mallet was for and just let him eat it.

Uh Oh! Here comes the Animal Train! It's headed right for us!

Wrestling:

I thought I could get Carter to crawl over to me by hiding one of his favorite toys behind my back. Well I got more than I bargained for!

He really wanted his giraffe!

Got him!
Giving Mommy a back rub!

Pimp pajamas:

We got these as a baby shower gift and I didn't fully appreciate how awesome they were until we put them on him today!

Don't forget!

Today is the train show at Thanksgiving Point and we are SO excited. Carter is all dressed up and ready to go!

Big boy bath!

Tonight was Carter's first big boy bath! He had a little trouble at first so one of us had to get in with him (not saying who and no there are no pictures of that) until he realized he really liked it. Warning: as with all bath pictures of babies it is hard to avoid the "money shot" and even though he kept covering himself with various objects his "rubber ducky" is exposed in one of the pictures!

Quack Quack!

Splashing is fun!

After the bath Carter and Mommy had a PJ party!

I think he looks SO much like Dave in this picture!

Then Carter and Daddy played with the mirror for a while!

Just call me "Mr. Manager"

I am officially back in the work force! I just got a job with Blockbuster as a shift leader (aka assistant manager) and it came just in time. Here is the story for those who haven't heard it yet. On the way home from picking up Brook from work a few weeks ago, she saw a banner outside a Blockbuster advertising the need for employees. She felt that this might be a good place to work nights, but I wanted to try out some temp agencies first. Brook kept on pushing me to check out Blockbuster and I finally submitted. I went in to talk to the manager and she told me that she was conducting interviews the next day, so if I applied online that day I might be able to get an interview. At the interview, Jen (the manager) told me the position I was applying for was only 2-3 nights a week and the pay was only $7.50. I told her that I would take anything right now. After talking with her about my previous work experience, she told me that I might be better suited for management, so she would call her district manager to set up an appointment with him. Last friday I went to the interview and to my suprise, not only was I interviewing with the district manager, but Jen and 2 other managers were also there. It was a little intimidating, but I performed well. After that interview I was told that after a background check, they would call me with an offer. Today I got the call and TADA I have the job. I never thought it would take this long to find a job, but with the economy being what it is, I am very thankful that I was able to find one that fit with my schedule and would be entertaining to work at. I want to thank everyone who prayed or sent positive energy my way to make this happen. Bring on the free rentals!!

What now?

I need help from anybody and everybody that is or has been in Mr Horner's history class at Santa Rosa High School. There will be many changes now that Obama is in office but the one that I'm concerned about now is the change in the end of the presidents song. I've tried to fit him in without making it sound dumb and I just can't make it work. I knew this day would come and I should have taken advantage of Jonathan before he left on his mission but I didn't. Any help would be appreciated, I'd like to have it figured out before Jonathan gets home from his mission so I can teach him and we can continue to sing it together. I have a little while... but it will bug me until I figure it out. Please help!
PS I am happy that Obama is president now, but I will be happier when I figure this out.

Carter vs. Cup

Monday, January 19, 2009

A precious moment of motherhood

Today I had one of those moments. Like when I felt him kick inside my tummy for the first time, when they handed him to me in the hospital, when he smiled at me or when he fell asleep in my arms. When I got home from work today I opened the door and Carter was laying on the floor playing with his cup. As soon as I said hi and he saw me he dropped his cup and crawled all the way over to me! I was so happy! I LOVE this whole crawling thing even though I know it will be a lot more work. That moment made it worth it!
Now for some pictures:
Our friend's Ty and Tiffany invited us over for a game night and their little 4 month old Syrie let Carter sleep in her crib. I think it might have been too pink for him.
Baby model! Here he is showing off one of his stocking stuffers. These are Gerber "lil' dippers" and they are supposed to teach him to feed himself. He gets the "put it in my mouth" part but the dipping part needs some work.
Tonight was Carter's first ride in a shopping cart! Dave did the shopping and I got to play with Carter the whole time. He got a little fussy towards the end but I think that was because I forgot toys! Bad Mommy!

"Injuries are a common occurrence"

Well, this makes post number 500 for us since we started our blog. That either means we have a busy life or no life!

Yesterday my work had a meet and greet with some reps up at Sundance and after we all went night tubing. I wasn't sure I was going to go because the waiver they made us sign had bold words like "DEATH", "INJURY", "ACCIDENT" and things like that. It also included the phrase "INJURIES ARE A COMMON OCCURRENCE." Once we got there it was pretty clear even the biggest wimps in the office were going to go so I decided it would make a very bad impression if I was the one who didn't. So I went and of course had fun. I only fell once and it was walking not tubing but luckily my butt was so numb it was being iced the entire time. It was really fun, nobody died and it was a great way to get to know my coworkers better.

This was written on the back of the tag that they made you wear to go tubing. Luckily I didn't see it until I got home.

Me and Courtney before tubing. Our work gave us MGIS hats and scarves that were super cute but I was already wearing a hat.

After going doubles down the hill.

I wish we could've gotten a better picture than these, but we were all laughing so hard! Courtney, my boss, another account manager and I went down the hill in a group of 4 and we were going so fast (because we were heavier) that we didn't stop at the end and the front 2 tubes ran into the wall! Luckily I was in the back! These pictures are of Courtney and my boss trying to free themselves from the bumper which in fact did not bump but pretty much ate them and Courtney's new bini. Luckily they were able to free themselves but the bini was lost forever.

In Carter news:

We are starting baby sign with him and my book says to start with 6 to 12 words half being "see a lot/ do a lot words" and the other half being "highly motivating words" so Dave and I sat down this morning and picked the words from the list we would start with:

  • See a lot/do a lot: More, all done/finished, pacifier and help
  • Highly motivating words: Ball, car, music and train

We will keep you updated on the progress of these signs.

He's also desperately trying to crawl. Here is a video:

Mr Incredible

All I wanted this Christmas was a clean house (and my wedding rings resized but a clean house is cheaper) but with the craziness of the holidays it only got partly done. The other day at work I caught myself thinking "I really feel like making the bed" which I NEVER do. The next morning I asked Dave if he could make the bed if he had time and I came home to a clean house!!! Every room was clean. I seriously cried. I have the best hubby ever. Not to mention he's lost 5 lbs! Here are some pictures of our place now that we aren't ashamed of it:

The living room when you walk in:

The dining room:
The kitchen (It's not up close because we just made dinner and haven't cleaned up yet...):
The tiny bathroom (which I actually cleaned Sunday):
Our home office and a junior blogger:

Our bedroom:

We've been talking about moving the dresser for a while now and Dave moved it all by himself!

You've all seen Carter's room before but it always changes so here it is again:

A place for everything and everything in it's place! You should recognize some of these toys... Larry, Jazzy, Ferguson and Bisket are just a few. The toy box:

We found the perfect place for a giant alligator!

And of course, what's left of Christmas! These are all the cards we got this year. We hung them by the front door. See if you can find the one that you sent:
